Happy easter, everyone! I made a little quick sketch for you because you’re all awesome.
Thank you so much for reading!

Happy easter, everyone! I made a little quick sketch for you because you’re all awesome.
Thank you so much for reading!

Okay! I sketched a comic for you guys for today. It amused me. (I’m not as good at writing comics as Sam is. That’s why I’m the artist!)
Nick and Kennedy at the carnival. Wee~! Thanks to Lottie for the suggestion “a stuffed cuddly toy elephant” for today’s sketch. (I’m going to be doing that every Wednesday! If you want to give me input, I usually ask it on Twitter!)
Today’s suggestion comes from @thatlittlebee! She said ‘something with giraffes’ and ‘maybe hedgehogs.’ I started to come up with a whole spread, before this idea hit me.
Petite Lap Giraffes is a website made by DirectTV for their marketing. Normally I’m not big on marketing, but frankly, this site is *hilarious*.
…And Nick, I have no idea how you thought that “webcam” would be a boon to your argument. Gotta try harder, boy.
Sketch night! Tonight is an expression sampling of what happens when the characters get scared half out of their minds. This is very dangerous, because we’re all quite certain Nick is already half out of his mind.
Today’s request comes from Katrina, from Facebook! She says: Childhood dreams!
What did they dream of doing when they were little? I can see Nick wanting to be a superhero with a cape or something, pahaha. xD
I wasn’t sure what Nick’s childhood dream was, except maybe cop; but then Sam said Kennedy wanted to be a policewoman and that fit so much better. And really, superhero totally fits him. He was a goofy little kid. And skinny! I don’t think I even quite drew him skinny enough. He’s supposed to be kind of runty. Ah well — I’ll get better.
This is what happens when fan suggestions meet our brand of brainstorming. I wish I could say there was alcohol involved in all this, but no, just a lot of laughter and a little indulgence.
And the inability to pass up on drawing a monster chinchilla mount. >.>
The suggestions were from @lupabitch (“bad guys”) and @AmmoniteInk (“chinchilla?”), by the way,
You people keep asking for chinchillas…
This suggestion was from @lupabitch for “MOAR CHINCHILLA!!!!!! Or a rubber ducky.”
I failed to figure out how to mix together chinchillas, tofu, and pyramids today. So have some practice sketches of wolves I did today instead! :B
EDIT: Turns out all I needed was a night of sleep to figure out how to combine them. I love drawing teenage Nick because he’s SO INSUFFERABLE. You think he’s broody now? You have no idea. Seriously, he deserves a punch in the jaw for every day he was a teenager.
It should be noted he’s not going vegetarian out of concern for the environment, and certainly not for his health. It’s because he was an insufferable martyr. Also, not being able to get nutrients from anything but meat is probably a werewolf recessive trait or something. I forget what we decided. SAM HALP
Sam Edit: The meat-only thing is a leftover from when Nick and Kennedy were RP characters, but I hadn’t really decided anything on this version of him because it really isn’t going to come up in the comic ever. Nor am I going to really explore the ins and outs of wolf/witch/vampire dietary constrictions because I’d rather spend that time blowing things up. So… Don’t think too hard about the meat thing, guys. It’s not really relevant beyond it being something the original incarnation of Nick had.
It WOULD be Nick opening it, and you all know it. Nothing but trouble. Also, there’s a neeeew character on this page! You’ll be meeting him soon.
The suggestion today was “Pandora’s Box” from @lottiotta!
So this one was primarily written by @Marco262, who also happens to be my husband. Nick has this tendency to go off into his own little science-y world and neglects to take everyone else with him. He also has a tendency to just start rambling (which, of course, Kennedy loves).
If my Wacom were working, this would totally have been neater! D: Also you get it early cause we haven’t quite worked out the kinks in the new system for sketch posts. Also, also, if you can’t read it, click it. You can read my terrible handwriting better at full size.
Aaaarrrgghhhh XD
Okay so, I was sick today so I just didn’t have the energy to pull from the crowd. Sorry guys! On the upside, I did an awesome sketch comic yesterday. But you *have* to read it alongside the song that goes with it because it’s awesome that way. And that song is Candlelight, by Relient K. See? I even gave it to you
But I’m super proud of this. At some point maybe I’ll fill in the musical interludes. But in the meantime, yay~
Oh yeah. This, as with all sketch comics, is not really canon so much as canon-flavored? Basically everything I ever write didn’t happen in the story, but it just gives you a sense of the characters, more or less. The only things that should be considered canon story-wise are the actual comic and the bonus comics that go with. So no, I didn’t ninja a date in under your noses.
(Though, actually, the dinner in the comic wasn’t a date! His conscience just caught up to him. Stupid conscience.)
Okay so, my wacom tablet is broken and we cannot currently afford a new one. Right now, this page has been inked and half-flatted, but I don’t think the fact that Wyatt is glowing would have gotten across well with just the inks, so you get pencils instead!
Tomorrow, I’m going to be trading my laptop in for a tablet laptop, and then I will be able to finish this page on Monday (as I have a family engagement in the evening tomorrow) and it will be up in its finished glory.
I’ve been itching to finish this all week >8| aaaaagh
So enjoy the pencils instead. They’re done on 11″x17″ comic boards, and scanned in by halves (as you can see by the line on the page … since my scanner refuses to not put in a line >:( )
If you want to help fund my getting an actual tablet that will function better than the tablet laptop (as no tablet laptop is actually made for drawing, nor is anywhere near as good as a wacom), then please donate to the Kickstarter! If we get funded there, that’s $800 we don’t have to pay out of pocket, and therefore I can afford to get a tablet.
If you are unable to donate — and believe me, we’ve all been there — then please spread the word. And let us know that you did! Because we’re running the raffle again this time around, and every time you share the link you get a ticket. The prize will be a choice between a sketched/signed copy of issue one or issue two, plus you get a CD full of original artwork signed by us too! SUPER DEAL, RIGHT? 8D Thanks you guys! Your support — even just by reading this comic — means everything to us! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/539407070/walking-on-broken-glass-issue-2
So I’ve been feeling reeeeeally under the weather today, and was unable to function well enough to sling together a crowdsourced comic. So, instead, you get some old drawings of Nick and Kennedy! I believe these were all done in mid to late 2009. I picked the ones that looked … the best. Some of the other ones, I couldn’t show becaaaause it took me over a year to get Nick and Kennedy to look right and the process to getting there was not pretty.
Nick gets impatient with Kennedy taking forever to go and so over the shoulder she goes!
And Nick and Kennedy as Han Solo and Slave Leia. Because y’gotta. Also Nick is a huge Star Wars geek. I HOPE THAT’S NOT SPOILERS, SAM
Sometimes you just get really into a song that comes up. Nick gets really into songs sometimes, in particular Franz Ferdinand’s “Take Me Out.” I think we decided this was Emily Burton’s first day of work at the office (the young blond hiding in issue 2 during the paintball fight). Heeerrrrp derp.
Today’s sketch comic comes from the keywords “unexpected consequences,” “weird science,” and “Twitter” from @Chaemera and @ZaxCG2. Oh David, you so crafty. And Nick you do not know how to keep your cool.
Okay! Today’s sketch comic comes a tiny bit early. The words were “cake” from @merrycheeza, and “ballroom dancing” from Viv. There’s a lot more cake than ballroom dancing but hey! It works.
Anyway, a few points of business!
Our Kickstarter has until 11:09am PST tomorrow! Donate if you’re able, spread the word for raffle tickets, yadda yadda, you’ve heard the spiel already.
Thank you everyone who did any of the above — it’s because of you that we made our goal and then some!
And secondly, last reminder for a while! If you like the sketch comics like this, I draw sketch comics all week now for Broken Glass on the Ask WoBG Tumblr where the characters answer your questions. Feel free to leave me questions!
Last point of business: I’m hunting down suggestions and requests for Extra Bonus Art on the CD and in the book. If you suggest something to me, and I draw it, you’ll get a copy in your email, whether you ordered the book/CD or not. So please! Suggest! Give me ideas! What do you want to see? Right now I’m going to be doing process, tutorials, pictures of the Farrs, pictures of Jessica and Frankie, and Kennedy making Nick eat something he doesn’t like. And some other bonus art I’ve already done. Please please suggest things if you have ideas! Makes things a lot easier for me
Last last point of business: YOU GUYS ROCK. Thank you so much just for reading our stuff.
So kind :’D
Okay so, since I had a crazy day yesterday and my computer is busted today (my luck with technology lately is abysmal!), I did not get a chance to get a sketch comic crowd sourced, or on time. So instead! You get the latest Ask WoBG, about why Nick is alpha. (Thank you, Ki Petty, for the question!)
If you have a question, I’m always happy to draw answers. You can ask them in comments, on twitter, or directly on the tumblr here.
In other news, the bonus blog that’s replacing the CD will be released to people who ordered it shortly. Those who wish they could have gotten an issue 2 from the kickstarter, you can always preorder from the store up there!
ANYWHO. THANKS GUYS.
Okay, starting next week, sketch comics go up on Thursdays. Recently, my Tuesdays have become very hectic, and I don’t even remember about sketch comics until WAY TOO LATE o’clock.
Also, deadlines are pretty pressing lately, between Womanthology, getting Issue 2 all laid out for the printers, and getting Kickstarter incentives straightened out. So I might seem a bit less productive than usual (aaaaaaaaaaaa).
Anyway…… have some sketches! @ElleDoubleYoo suggested a midnight snack for Nick and Kennedy, and @WinterPhoenix suggested EVERYONE FLIRTING WITH EVERYONE.
I am so sorry Phoenix, I totally let you down. XD
Sorry for that comic. That’s what happens when I’m burnt out and I’m lacking a Sam to script something better.
Anyway, the page will be late this week. I’m working hard on it, but it’s a complex page, and I spent all week getting our submission for Womanthology done, as well as trying to wrangle issue 2′s book layout/bonus comics, and trying to get enough content on the bonus blog for it to be worth releasing just yet. Long story short, I’m kind of burnt out and trying to balance getting things done and taking care of myself. Not easy!
One way or the other, the page should be up later today or Monday, unless things go wrong. I’ll post on the facebook or my Twitter tomorrow, and I should be able to stream the page somewhere for people to watch while I work. It might be a G+ hangout, or a Livestream, or a tinychat… Dunno yet!
Anywho. Thanks for your patience. I hope the sketch comic keeps you warm until the real one comes out.
(PS Many thanks for my husband the EE for the EE scribbles on the board. ♥)
